If English Sheffield United does not find satisfaction in overturning its relegation from the Premier League, it might look toward the European Commission (EC) for financial help.
Sheffield United is pleading with an appeal's board that it did not merit relegation when West Ham was handed a hefty fine only – and no points penalty – for its hand in the illegal transfers of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
Factors in not handing down a points deduction included the late time of the season and the West Ham fan reaction. Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe said those factors should not have weighed in on the decision.
So McCabe believes the panel will side with the club, and said the club would accept relegation should the ruling go against it.
But the club would pursue financial compensation if relegated.
"We'll go to the European Commission for them to opine," McCabe said. "We believe we have maybe got a human rights issue because of the loss of jobs that has been established if we are relegated, the salaries that are reduced because of going from the Premiership to the Championship and those sort of issues.
"The real key is the arbitration, to right the wrong of the injustice that was caused by the first decision. We didn't field ineligible players."
