FIFA finds no unusual betting patterns for 2010 World Cup qualifiers
World Cup 2010 - 12 December, 2007
FIFA officials said the initial qualifying for the 2010 World Cup has been cleared of any match-fixing.
The governing body said its early-warning system found no unusual betting patterns during qualifying. UEFA had raised fears of match-fixing after forwarding a portfolio on suspect matches to European police.
"This is a serious threat to football," FIFA president Sepp Blatter said in a statement. "We have no doubt, however, that UEFA will do everything in its power to resolve the problem. FIFA is of course offering a helping hand by making the early warning system available to all confederations and associations."
FIFA tested its betting-pattern systems at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It now has been up for six months.
