AC Milan chairman to trial on corruption charges

Italian AC Milan chairman Adriano Galliani is being called to trial on corruption charges by Genoa financial authorities.

Inspector Massimo Terrile is leading the investigations against alleged financial irregularities in the accounts of Genoa (2003-04) and Sampdoria (2002-03). Alleged crimes are submitting false balances in the case of Galliani and the use of false invoices for inexistent deals in the case of Genoa, Cesena (2003) and Udinese (2004).

Galliani has been accused of deliberately overvaluing Nigerian player Ikechukwu Kalu, who was loaned from Sampdoria to Milan for approximately EUR 2 million.

Those who have been called include Riccardo Garrone and Beppe Marotta, president and director general of Sampdoria, and Enrico Preziosi, the Genoa owner. Aside from Galliani, Gianni Blondet, the former director general of Genoa, Giorgio Lugaresi and Gabriele Valentini, ex-president and ex-secretary of Cesena, and Franco Soldati y Pierpaolo Marino, ex-president and ex-director general of Udinese, have also been called to account.
