Italy has been stung again with match-fixing charges, as Lazio coach Delio Rossi has been charged with attempting to influence an opposing team in April 2006.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) alleged Rossi tried to ask club president Claudio Lotito to contact Lecce officials and discuss tactics before their match. Reports indicate a phone tap revealed the ploy.
FIGC said Rossi could not reach the other club, though Lazio won the match in question.
Lazio has also been charged. A disciplinary commission will decide Rossi's guilt or innocence. If found guilty, the panel also will decide on his punishment.
Lazio had 30 points deducted already for the big match-fixing scandal. The club also was relegated for trying to get certain referees appointed for matches.
