A Dutch prosecutor cleared four professional players of bribery charges after a preliminary investigation.

"The police and the prosecutor's office started an investigation in January to see if players were bribed or approached," field officer Han Moraal told a news conference. "The investigation started when a former girlfriend of one of the players filed charges of bribery at the Rotterdam police force.

"In our investigation we suspected four players and matches of ADO Den Haag and RBC Roosendaal in the 2004/2005 season and the outcome was that the suspicion was not proved."

During the investigation the phones of the suspects and other targets were tapped by a 15-men police team.
