Leeds to pay GBP 500,000 costs of appeal

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Apparently appealing an agreed-to penalty will cost English Leeds United more than a loss of face and 15 points.

The club learned it also will face approximately GBP 500,000 in charges owed the Football League. It was decided that Leeds will absorb the league's costs of defending the case.

Leeds left insolvency without a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA). That led the club to sign an agreement with the Football League that it would take an additional 15-point penalty to rejoin the league.

Despite the written pledge not to pursue legal action, the club did so. Now, it will pay the costs.
