Two Finish men – including a former coach – are being prosecuted, allegedly trying to fix football matches between 2003 and 2005.

The prosecutors declined to name the suspects, but one is charged with trying to bribe staff at Finnish clubs Jaro, FC Honka, Rakuunat and Warkaus JK to lose.

The other suspect was the coach of Warkaus JK when his team played against Jyvaskyla JJK on 6 June 2004. Prior to that match – which Jyvaskyla won 2-0 – the national betting agency Veikkaus saw suspicious bets of EUR 63,000 against Warkaus

Aside from the coach, none of the players or staff are suspected of accepting bribes Finnish tabloid Ilta-Sanomat published a 2005 story in which an unnamed player said he had received money to drop matches.
