Update on bungs inquiry expected this week

In December, Lord Stevens announced the results of his bungs inquiry by revealing that 17 transfers, out of a total of 362, needed further investigating because eight football agents would not co-operate with the inquiry.

This week, Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore, expects a statement to be issued regarding the latest developments in the bungs inquiry.

Stevens, a former Metropolitan Police commissioner, gave searing criticism regarding the FA and the accounting procedures of some unnamed clubs. The inquiry has produced 39 observations and recommendations.

Stevens was given time to continue his investigation on a month-by-month basis and Scudamore said a public update would be given once the Premier League is briefed on the latest findings.

"We are still continuing. There were 17 transfers involving agents that Lord Stevens asked for more time to look at," said Scudamore.

"We're probably going to make a statement between now and the end of this week as to exactly where we are. We have said from the outset we will go where the evidence goes. We would like it to be done quickly but we don't want it done quickly at the expense of it being done properly."
