Cardiff chairman worries about consequences of Langston affair
England - 06 December, 2007
Welsh Cardiff City chairman Peter Risdale feels his club is in the right in its legal fight against the Langston Corporation, but is worried that his club could lose its new stadium and face financial disaster.
Cardiff City has a loan with Langston. By Risdale's reading, full payment is not due for at least another eight years. Langston is demanding immediate repayment.
Risdale laid the blame for the difficulties at the feet of former chairman Sam Hammam, who now has ties with Langston. Hammam took out the original GBP 24 million loan.
Risdale's biggest concern, despite feeling his club is right, is Cardiff City could be forced into administration and lose the new 30,000-capacity stadium currently being constructed.
"Whoever Langston may be we just wish someone from them would sit down around a table so we can talk about this situation," Risdale told the Western Mail. "I am being asked all the awkward questions about this situation and I don't have a problem with that because the supporters have the right to know what is going on, but I do wish Langston would answer some of them and come out and say what their intentions really are.
"I do want people to remember that these loan notes and the alterations to them were taken out during the time when Sam Hammam was in charge here."
