The 1.Bundesliga club president Karl- Heinz Rummenigge has informed that the squad size will be reduced from the current 26 to 22 before the start of next season, while changing the emphasis on bringing youth team players through to the first team. The step is made in intention to reduce player wage costs and in reaction to the club’s loss of €3.4m reported last month. “We don't need four new signings every year, and we want to make room for the best players from our youth section,” he commented in the club’s website.
