Manchester United claims that agents justified their large payments
England - 25 October, 2004
The Premier League club chief executive David Gill claimed agents justified their £5m payments by providing a service. However, Premier League club Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has criticized Manchester’s new era of transparency. Jordan, who missed out on signing Australian international Tim Cahill from Championship club Millwall in the summer, after he allegedly refused to pay the players’ agent a £125,000 fee, believes it is wrong to pay large sums to agents for effectively acting as middlemen. "Gill's comments are all well and good for United, but, in my opinion, illustrate the immaturity in this industry. Guys that pour money into clubs take a very different view,” Jordan commented to media.
