The Primera Liga club has formally announced a €300m budget for the current season – a significant increase on last year’s €232m. Most of this rise will be driven from marketing revenues coming from the star players attracting the sale of a record number of replica shirts around the world. The club is also expecting a huge rise in pre-tax profits, from €8m in the period to July 2004 to €50m in the current financial year, though wage costs are expected to climb 13% from €123.6m last year to €140.2m this season.
