According to Spanish daily sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, clubs have spent around €166m in transfer fees since the start of the current transfer window, €114m in July alone. The figure is modest and significantly low compared to the €406m spent in 2000/01 and the €309m in 2001/02, following large revenues from TV broadcasting deals. €90m were generated by Primera Liga clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona alone, while Deportivo La Coruna, Osasuna, Albacete, Numancia and Getafe reinforced without spending any money.
