Leeds players may soon get paid

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
After missing a payment for the month of June, English Leeds United players soon might be getting their due.

Caught up in the turmoil of countless takeovers and re-sales, the players did not receive their last balance due, which came at the end of June. So, as Leeds United supporters launched a "Save Our Club" campaign by placing flowers around statues of the club's former greats, sources indicted that current players might be saved by getting back pay within the week.

The players agreed to a wage deferral in May, but if left unpaid for 90 days, they would become able to transfer for free to other clubs.

That's just part of the drama that has swept the club this summer. The club was twice re-sold to former chairman Ken Bates after he placed Leeds United into administration. That has led to a pay problem; with the Football League questioning the re-sale and the competence of administrator KPMG, they have withheld the membership rights, the "golden share", as well as transfer fees due.
