The Football Association denied intentionally delaying Welsh Wrexham's exit from administration.
Prospective new owners Neville Dickens and Geoffrey Moss had expected by now to complete a GBP 3.3 million takeover. But the takeover has been repeatedly delayed by red tape.
The Football League has accepted the details of the takeover which would see the League Two club come out of administration after 19 months. But an FA spokesman last night denied that it was they who were holding things up.
"It is incorrect to say we are delaying anything," said the spokesman. "We are aware of Wrexham's situation and have had discussions with the relevant parties but no action or query of the FA's is delaying the process."
An insider at Wrexham disagreed.
"It is all ready to go but we are waiting for the green light from the FA on a technicality," the insider said.
New chief executive Anthony Fairclough is due to begin work at the club tomorrow, having left Burnley to take charge of the day-to-day running of Wrexham.
Meanwhile the club is in line for a potential financial windfall from their innovative new shirt sponsorship deal. Leasedirect Finance Ltd will pay the club a GBP 500 bonus every time they score three goals in a game. Other extra incentives mean the club could earn upwards of GBP 60,000.
