A consulting firm has compiled a report with the findings that, if France's Ligue 1 wants to be thought of as one of the elite leagues, it will need to do heavy investment.
The Soccer Investor reports that Inem Consulting and Marseille's Euromed School came to the conclusion that an additional EUR 400 million is needed for the league to hit the stratosphere of the Bundesliga, Spanish League, Serie A and, of course, English Premier League.
Vincent Chaudel, head of Inem Consulting, told Soccer Investor that one of the aims is to increase the affluence of stadia to the level currently reached in Spain. "From here until 2012 we have set 28,000 fans as our average crowd attendance," Chaudel said. For the past ten years the average attendance has been between 20,000 and 22,000.
Ligue 1 had EUR 386 million in business during the 2005-2006 season. The Premier League was at EUR 1.1 billion. The Bundesliga had EUR 870 million, while Serie A was last among the power players at EUR 526 million.
