MANU chief says clubs should get slice of international tournaments

The Premier League club’s Chief Executive Officer, David Gill, reiterated the call for some kind of compensation for players that take part in international games and tournaments. This belief actually goes further than the G14’s call for federations and associations to take out insurance to cover players injured while playing for their national teams.

Gill’s call for compensation would tap into the revenues by FIFA and UEFA earns by staging the World Cup and the European Championships directly to the clubs.

“We believe that our players are the assets providing the income,” said Gill, speaking at Soccerex London Forum. “The belief of the clubs is that the assets providing these profits are being paid for by the clubs.”
