PRESTON NORTH END REPORTS NARROW LOSSES DUE TO RISE IN SALARIES

The Championship club experienced a rise in ticket revenue, but those figures were offset by a rise in player salaries as the club tries to win promotion to the Premiere League. The club posted pretax losses of GBP 376,000 for the six-month period ending December 31, 2005, compared to losses of GBP 1.17 million over the same period last year. However, operating losses rose to GBP 806,000 versus a loss of GBP 666,000 last year.

Aside from the losses, the club’s chairman said there were positive developments. In a statement he said: “I am delighted to report that we have now secured planning consent to construct an indoor 'Soccer Dome' at the training ground.  When constructed, this will allow us to take a major step towards achieving Academy status which ultimately we hope would enable us to attract the highest standard of young footballing talent to the Club.  It would also provide significant benefits to the winter training schedule of all our squads.  We are now working on securing the funding for this major project.”
