ATLETICO MADRID SAYS EUR 30M WILL BE AVAILABLE IN TRANSFER FUNDS
The Primera Liga club has announced that it will have EUR 30 million to spend on transfers during the off-season, according to club president Miguel Angel Gil Marin. The club has already announced that defender Mariano Pernia of Primera Liga club Getafe FC will join the club in June.
“Atletico is a buying club,” Gil said. “The idea is to sign another three players on top of Pernia to reinforce the good squad we already have. In order to keep on growing we need to work from the base of securing positive results like we have been doing in recent times.”
The club also announced that it is considering selling its home stadium, Vicente Calderon, to local authorities. The plan is to invest EUR 150 million into the construction of a larger-capacity stadium.
“To have a referendum regarding the sale of the stadium we have to ask the opinion of the relevant people, not just make our own minds up,” Gil said. “But the majority of Atleticos will want to support this operation and help the club to continue to secure good results. This is the first time that the interests of the side and those of the council have coincided. We have never been so close.”
