Clubs benefit from state funding

A total of 16 clubs have received €5.27m in funding from the Irish Department of Arts Sports and Tourism towards ground redevelopments, the purpose of which is to bring stadia up to the new standards required by the UEFA licensing manual.

The main beneficiaries are eircom League First Division club Athlone Town, who received €1.25m towards the cost of their new stadium, work on which is already underway. Others to benefit are Cork City (€902,000), Galway United (€500,000), Waterford United (€500,000), Sligo Rovers (€400,000), Bray Wanderers (€375,000), Limerick FC (€300,000), Longford Town (€204,000), Kildare County (€200,000), Monaghan United (€200,000), Cobh Ramblers (€150,000), Shelbourne (€104,000), Kilkenny City (€100,000), UCD (€40,000), Drogheda United (€30,000) and Bohemians (€14,000).
