Football Association ask for libel case transcripts
|
The FA has requested transcripts of the libel action brought by Liverpool's Harry Kewell against Gary Lineker. The FA is investigating into the circumstances behind the player's £5m move from Leeds in 2003. The FA is compiling a dossier of evidence to pass on to FIFA, who are understood to be examining the transfer deal. FIFA regulations stipulate that only licensed agents may negotiate on behalf of players and clubs and Kewell's personal manager Bernie Mandic does not hold an official license. FIFA have apparently taken the lead in the investigation because of its international dimension involving an Australian player and agent, though the FA are likely to come under pressure to take their own action given that it revolves around two of the country's best-known clubs. Both clubs could be subject to substantial fines and, more seriously, lengthy bans on transfer activity if it is proved that they knowingly used the services of an unlicensed agent. |
