Premier League revenue gap widens, percentage is lower

English Manchester United might have had a record income haul, but Premier League officials insisted the gap between the richest clubs and the not-as-rich clubs has closed.
Still, the GBP 50 million chasm between the GBP 78 million earned by Manchester United and the GBP 28 million earned by Derby County looks formidable. Last season, there was a GBP 40 million gap between the richest club and the club with least amount of revenue.
Premier League officials look at the percentage aspect. Manchester United had a 25 percent increase. Derby County's number soared by 56.5 percent, a jump after leaving the second tier, albeit for one season.
Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson said the gap was closing due to the high-revenue TV deals. Contracts are divided evenly amongst the clubs. All clubs are guaranteed to 10 payments for live match broadcasts.
