FAI turns record profit

Better TV and sponsorship deals have the Football Association of Ireland looking at a net of EUR 30 million this season. That comes after having close to EUR 15 million in reserve the previous year.

Since 2005the FAI sponsorships have allowed the group to add EUR 13 million to come in at almost EUR 30 million.

The FAI estimated it will have revenues of more than EUR 45 million this year, the highest annual total for the organisation.

According to its annual report, the FAI had an operating surplus of EUR 1.5 million in 2006, down from EUR 4.2 million the previous year, attributing the decrease to increased investment.

There also was a loss of revenue from a decrease in the amount of international matches played in 2006. FAI took a hit on a EUR 300,000 loan to the Eircom League, but the FAI took control of that league.
