Brief relegation costs Birmingham City

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
English Birmingham City took a full-year pretax loss and reported a 38 percent decline in turnover, blaming relegation for the financial issues.

The club has now regained its Premier League status, and is trying to get through a slow-moving takeover bid by businessman Carson Yeung.

Turnover fell to GBP 25 million from 40 million at year-end August, and the pretax loss was GBP 6.5 million from 2.6 million.

Club officials expect holiday sales to be high, with the club looking to maintain a foothold in the Premier League. The club's deal with Umbro will help Birmingham City maintain a visible profile.
