FAI concerned with Shelbourne's accounts

The First Instance Committee of the FAI, which issues club licences, was concerned about financial accounts submitted last year by Shelbourne, the 2006 eircom League of Ireland Champions, and met to consider the status of the licence issued to the club last December.

The committee decided to get more information from Shelbourne, which could lose its Premier Division licence if it is found that the financial accounts filed last year by the club are inaccurate.

In the meantime, the inaugural meeting of the FAI's National League 6 man executive committee met last Friday in Dublin.

Richard Collins, who is based out of London and is a former chairman and current director of Charlton Athletic FC, is a member of the committee that has the responsibility for the control and management of the newly merged eircom League of Ireland.

Chairman of the executive committee, Paddy McCaul, thinks the new six-man body will lead to "more streamlined and decisive decision making."

The 2007 eircom League of Ireland season will kick-off on Friday, 9 March.
