German Borussia Dortmund (BVB) is to play against Spanish Real Madrid in a friendly match on August 19, 2009 at Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
BVB's longstanding marketing partner SPORTFIVE made the footballing highlight possible. The exact kick-off time is still to be announced.
This game is the third European encounter SPORTFIVE has organized and marketed for Real Madrid, officially declared by FIFA to be the best club of the 20th century. SPORTFIVE is organising the two historic clubs' exclusive meeting with its newly founded event subsidiary, 'The Sports Promoters' (TSP).
Philipp Hasenbein, managing director of SPORTFIVE, said: "We are delighted to be able to bring Real Madrid, the world's best club, to Dortmund and organise and market such a footballing highlight for BVB’s centenary. For TSP, organising this top encounter is a thrilling job." BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke commented: "A duel with Real Madrid is always an absolute highlight. We are very pleased to be able to offer our fans this encounter, because games against the 'Royals' are always great emotional occasions and every player wants to do their best, even if it is a game between friends."
"Our fans and the team are already looking forward to this game, because BVB is a great club and the game is sure to take place against an impressive backdrop. We have had very good experiences with friendly matches in Germany and it will be a very interesting and prestigious game for our team," said Real Madrid General Director and Presidential Advisor, Jorge Valdano. Advance tickets go on sale July 6, 2009 at all BVB's usual ticket agencies.
