Rangers, Celtic angry about SPL schedule changes

A possible season extension for Scottish Rangers made both the Scottish Premier League's (SPL) most renowned clubs unhappy.

As the SPL announced an extension if Rangers made the UEFA Cup final, Rangers questioned why there was not a longer extension. Celtic, Rangers rival, showed aggravation that the schedule was being toyed with under the circumstances.

It was a can't-win scenario for the league, which tried to ease pressure off Rangers. The club would have faced three matches in three days if it beat Italian Fiorentina in the semifinals and the schedule remained unchanged.

Instead, there is the possibility of three matches in five days, making Rangers disenchanted.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said the SPL compromised its integrity by extending the season to 22 May.
