Citing a need to align themselves with the rest of the world, Yevgeny Giner, President of Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow, proposed a schedule switch for the country’s league.
Giner wants the league to follow a winter schedule, and would like the measure implemented as soon as this fall. Presently, the country’s schedule runs from March until November in order to avoid the harsh Russian winters.
“I’ve persuaded the majority of my colleagues to accept the new format,” Giner told the Izvestia daily.
Giner said the league could make the switch because of the increase in stadiums with roofs. He also said the move would increase interest from international TV broadcasters.
