UEFA CL Cup Handover and draw in Paris

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Since the 1997 UEFA Champions League final, staged in Munich, it has become an established tradition for the previous season’s champion to formally return the UEFA Champions League trophy to UEFA at a special ceremony and for the cup then to be handed to the host city to be put on display until the final. This year, the event will be different, given that Liverpool FC won the title for the fifth time at last season’s final in Istanbul, earning the honour of keeping the cup in their trophy room rather than handing it back.

A new UEFA Champions League trophy • which, for the first time, is engraved with the names of the 50 previous winners • has therefore been crafted and will make its first public appearance at the Cup Handover ceremony.

The new trophy will then be handed to the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, for safekeeping and display to the public until this season’s UEFA Champions League final is played at the Stade de France on Wednesday 17 May.

The event will take place at the Salle des Fetes - Hotel de Ville in Paris on Friday 10 March, and will be televised live by Eurosport.

Immediately after the Cup Handover ceremony, the draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League will take place.
