Clubs to earn more spot in UEFA Cup

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
UEFA has decided not to offer the InterToto Cup any longer. As a result, at least five Scottish football clubs will be involved in the 09/10 UEFA competitions.

The InterToto Cup was a qualifying competition for the UEFA Cup. Starting in 2009, these qualifying rounds will actually be a part of the UEFA Cup, and will not be optional. In previous years, Scottish football clubs have decided not to participate in the InterToto Cup due to pre-season training.

Scottish Premier League Champions will be automatically entered into the group stage of the Champions League next year. Second place winners will be entered into the second qualifying round for the Champions League. Scottish Cup winners will be entered into the first UEFA Cup round, or the final qualifying round before the group phase next year.

The clubs who earn fifth place will have a short summer vacation of only two weeks as they will be entered into the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.
