The Russian national team, led by national team trainer Guus Hiddink, will make a stop in Burghausen on its way to the UEFA EURO 2008™. The Russian delegation will move into its training camp in Rottach-Egern on 25 May to prepare for its upcoming Group D encounters in the UEFA EURO 2008™.
Among other things, the preparation consists of two friendlies against the national teams from Serbia and Lithuania, which will be fought in the Wacker-Arena, the home ground of SV Wacker Burghausen, a regional league team.
The dates:
28 May 2008 Russia – Serbia
04 June 2008 Russia – Lithuania
The Russian Football Federation has put the international sports rights agency SPORTFIVE in charge of coordinating the training camp and the match venue.
After the game on 4 June, Russia will travel directly to Austria. The team headquarters during the EURO will be in Leogang. Hiddink’s lads will battle the other teams in group D, Spain, Greece and Sweden, to determine who gets to go on to the quarter-finals. The games will be held in Innsbruck and Salzburg. Russia’s first EURO match will be against Spain at 6pm on 10 June.
Both test matches will be broadcast live to Russia. “We’re going to a similar amount of trouble as with the DFB Cup,” says Daniel Dicker, marketing director at Wacker Burghausen Fußball GmbH. “But it also means that Burghausen will once again be getting premium international exposure through football,” he added.
