The International Football Association Board (IFAB), made up of the four home nations associations and FIFA, is having its annual meeting in Cardiff. The main item of discussion is the latest goal line technology developed by German sportswear manufacturer adidas. The latest development features a micro-chip located inside a match ball, which sends an alert to match officials via a bleepersystem, whenever the ball crosses the goal-line. David Davies, executive director of the English Football Association told the media: “We will be very interested to see this presentation. It’s true we have been more interested than other associations. This is not video technology. The referee will be directly informed and not have to rely on a third party to judge the decision.” The Football League has offered to experiment with the new technology. “The offer is still on the table,” spokesman John Nagle said.
