Football associations from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have been working toward a Celtic Cup tournament.
Representatives from the four national associations met Sept. 3 to discuss the potential tournament.
Scotland boss Alex McLeish has given his approval for the proposed tournament, which could take place in alternate years. The group wants to look into details including dates, sponsorship and television viability.
Potentially, the cup could be launched as early as 2008. FIFA has friendly dates listed in August, November and February.
A meeting to iron out the details is scheduled at the end of the month.
