Sepp Blatter, FIFA president, has verified that there is a 'Plan B' for the hosting of the 2010 World Cup. While he admits there are alternative plans, they will proceed with the initial plan unless some "catastrophe" occurs.
The original plan was to have South Africa host the tournament, but there have been increasing concerns regarding security issues in the area. There are also some construction delays. The Confederation Cup will be held in South Africa next year, and will serve as a sort of trial for the World Cup.
Six countries will participate in the Confederation Cup, and this will put transportation, stadiums, and hotel facilities to the test.
"I would be a very negligent president if I hadn't put away in a drawer somewhere a plan B," Blatter said.
"However, only a natural catastrophe would change things. If we had to activate the plan B, we would take our decision after the Confederations Cup."
