The Austrian-based company manufacturing the carbonated energy drink, is pursuing a purchase of the Major League Soccer club, reported the New York Daily News.

The club, which plays its home games at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and is building a new facility in nearby Harrison that will open in 2007 or 2008, is owned by AEG.Both parties hope to have a deal completed before the season open (2 April). It was not known for how much the team would be sold.

Red Bull GmbH owns another soccer team: Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian First Division, which the company purchased in April, when the club was called SV Wustenrot Salzburg. AEG, which owns five of the league’s 12 franchises, reportedly would retain rights to the MetroStars' new stadium.
