Supporters’ group vote for no confidence in chairman Ellis
England - 20 September, 2004
The Supporters’ group, which holds a small stake in the club, had tabled a vote of no confidence in chairman Doug Ellis, calling on him to stand down to allow alternative inward investment. The group also wanted the club’s Doug Ellis stand renamed. The votes of no confidence and the stand name were won on a show of hands. However, they are likely to be reversed after Ellis, as the largest shareholder (33.6%), ruled for a ballot, which will include the proxy votes. This will ensure him victory, even after he agreed to remove his share of the vote on the naming of the stand issue.
