Glazer is moving for Manchester United's takeover
|
US sports entrepreneur Malcolm Glazer is expected to meet representatives of the Cubic Expression group in a bid to acquire their 28.9% stake in English Premier Club Manchester United. Glazer, whose existing portfolio includes the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, currently holds a 19.2% stake. If Glazer acquire the Cubic Expression stake and become the club’s majority shareholders, he would be required to make a full bid for the club that is currently valued at £667m. Glazer has held talks with US and European banks about possible financing for the bid, including German-based Commerzbank and various US banks. Glazer also put up 39 out of his 56 up-market shopping centers throughout the USA for sale back in May, in a bid to raise US$ 700m (€550m) to fund the proposed share purchase. However, Cubic Expression group are reported to be not keen on selling any of their stake, which they have built up over four years. The club’s current major holdings: Cubic Expression (John Magnier & JP McManus) Irish horseracing owners 28.89%, Malcolm Glazer Family Partnership 19.17%, Mountbarrow Investments Ltd (Harry Dobson) Scottish mining magnate 6.48%, UBS Global Asset Management Life Ltd Financial Services group 4.66%, Legal & General Group plc Financial Services group 3.11%
