Watford admits approaches from investors

English Watford are pondering a possible sale, with the club's website confirming the news.

That news came within a week of chairman Graham Simpson declaring the club has not been in discussions with investors. Simpson said lead shareholder Michael Ashcroft had not told him of any approaches.

Yet, Watford is backtracking off that statement in the face of a potential GBP 30 million offer.

"The board of Watford notes the recent press speculation in connection with a possible offer for the Company and confirms that it's received a tentative approach and is in very preliminary discussions, which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the Company," read a statement on the club site. "There is no certainty that any offer will be forthcoming."

Watford turned a GBP 5.6 million loss into pre-tax profits of GBP 8 million for the foscal year ending last June.
