Las Vegas likely to receive MLS team

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Las Vegas remains a candidate in the potential plans for a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team. MLS Commissioner Don Garber confirmed the possibility earlier this week, during his State of the League address in Toronto.

Californian business mogul Mark Noorzai, the man behind the Las Vegas Sports & Entertainment Group (LVSEG), first put forth the idea of an expansion team over a year ago. Noorzai intends to create a team to inhabit a multi-million dollar soccer stadium by securing a party of investors.

Garber remains extremely optimistic about the future success of the league.

"(Our) goal is to be one of the best soccer leagues in the world and we think we can achieve that."

Hall-of-Famer Paul Caligiuri has been designated official LVSEG spokesperson but, like Noorzai, is prevented from discussing any details due to a non-disclosure agreement.

While other locations were also noted, including Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Atlanta, Miami, St. Louis and New York, it appears likely that Las Vegas and St. Louis may be home to the next two teams.
