Thailand reviewing Thaksin's financial movements

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Thailand is beginning a formal investigation into Thaksin Shimawatra's finance, looking at whether the former prime minister bought English Manchester City with tainted funds.

The central bank is being asked for details of Thaksin's cash movements.

"We want to know if Thaksin really bought the club," AEC chairman Nam Yimyam said. "If so, where did he get the money from and whether that money had been declared with the Counter Corruption Commission."

Thaksin was ousted last year in a bloodless coup. He exiled to England and has been reviled by many watchdog groups. He managed to purchase Manchester City earlier this year despite having his assets frozen by the Thai government.
