Bradford City nears deal for new investor
|
League One Bradford City may soon have a new investor. Club chairman Julian Rhodes is in talks with Bradford’s commercial manager, Peter Etherington, about investing in the club. A statement on the team’s website revealed that discussions have been going on for two months, with more planned in the next week. The deal is expected to be finalised soon without any difficulties.
“We are talking about an investment over a period of time starting in July,†Rhodes stated on Bradford's website. As commercial manager, Etherington recently turned down an offer by car dealership JCT600, the club’s shirt sponsor for the past nine years. At the time, Etherington, the father of player Matthew Etherington, said he felt Bradford City could secure a more lucrative deal. In addition to being commercial manager, Etherington is involved with a Blackpool-based company, Oxygen8, that supplies office and business services to companies. “Obviously, we were very disappointed to have our offer rejected,†JCT600 chairman Jack Tordoff said on the club’s website, “particularly in view of our previous support in the administration period when we paid our sponsorship money up front. But commercially I understand their reasons. But I must say there is no animosity on our part and we’ll do other types of sponsorship, like matchdays.†|
