Altough Sheikh Mohammed confirmed to the Gazzetta dello Sport that his family are interested in buying Italian Roma, Italpetroli, the parent company of the club, insists that no offer has been received from Dubai International Capital (DIC).

DIC, the investment arm of the Government of Dubai, said it would bid for Roma after their plans to purchase English Liverpool ran into trouble.

Italpetroli confirmed that there has been approach to buy shares, but deny that the offer was made by DIC.

"On Thursday a representative of Italpetroli received a visit from a representative of a potential investor interested in acquiring shares of the club,” a statement from Italpetroli reads.

"We would like to confirm that there has been no procedure to sell such shares."

"Italpetroli would like to take this opportunity to confirm, contrary to how much has been reported, that we have not received an offer from the Royal Family of the Arab Emirates.

"Nor has there been any contact with their delegates with respect to the sale of our controlling stake."

It is believed that Italpetroli, which possess debts in the region of EUR 370 million, would consider selling the club.

A number of American businessman have been linked with a takeover, including George Soros, John Fisher, and Tom Hicks.

Italpetroli is owned by the Sensi family, and Franco Sensi acts as the club's president.
