Satisfactory marks given by UEFA during licence checks
FIFA & UEFA - 21 December, 2006
UEFA has completed its club licencing compliance spot-checks for the 2005-2006 season. France, Portugal, Serbia and Spain were the ones chosen for the checks, and all received satisfactory marks.
The checks ensure that licences required to take part in European competitions are being correctly issued by, for the most part, national associations. They must comply with the various licencing requirements involving sporting, personnel and administrative, legal and financial criteria.
The spot checks were carried out, and documents backing up the licencing decision on 18 clubs were reviewed. UEFA said, in all cases, the compliance audits were satisfactory.
"This is not only an important and positive result for the concerned associations, but also gives other associations and UEFA a certain assurance that our efforts in closely monitoring the licensors is the right approach to improve quality in European football," UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson said. "The UEFA administration will continue with and intensify such compliance audits and will shortly start with those for the current 2006-07 season as also recommended by the Independent European Sport Review."
