English Aston Villa confirms offers as manager departs amicably
England - 21 July, 2006
English Aston Villa has confirmed a number of approaches from various parties, coming from the United Kingdom, as well as overseas. These are in place as David O' Leary departs as manager.
The Premier League football club has been in an official offer period since Sept 19, when the AVIL consortium made an initial approach to the company. Extensive discussions are ongoing and will be fully explored to determine whether a formal offer will be forthcoming.
There is no certainty that these discussions will lead to an offer being made, the club said.
Aston Villa also agreed a compensation package with O'Leary, who left the club by mutual consent. This follows an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the publication of a statement from the entire first team squad that criticised chairman Doug Ellis.
The company said the enquiry has completed its investigation, and no misconduct by the manager was uncovered.
