McCabe gets an unwanted surprise in bid for Ferencvaros

It seemed clear to Kevin McCabe that he could have an interest in English Sheffield United and Hungarian Ferencvaros.

His company was the only one to submit a bid on the Hungarian club, and finalising it seemed a mere formality. The Hungarian government even said, on 28 Dec., the bid would hold up.

Yet, it was not successful on the bid. No reason was forthcoming.

"The announcement contradicts all that has been stated over the last four months by officials and members of the Government and is in the opinion of Esplanade's Hungarian based executives and Sheffield United detrimental to the future success and prosperity of Ferencvaros FC," McCabe said.

Directors of Sheffield United had been working on restoring the past glory to the club. They had planned early transfer loans of some of Sheffield United's overseas players as part of a promotional campaign.
