A Ukraine-born Canadian has taken control of Israel's most renowned football club.
Metal trader Alex Schneider has taken over Maccabi Tel Aviv, the country's most storied club, as it was formed in 1906. Maccabi has 18 league championships and 22 State Cups to its credit.
But the club has been pushed toward the end of the table as of late, and last won the league title in 2003.
Schneider, who owns Midland Resources, paid USD 20 million for an 80-percent stake in the club.
