Shamrock Rovers in a takeover
|
A group of supporters and Australian based merchant banker Ray Wilson has expressed interest in a takeover of troubled eircom Premier League club. The Dublin outfit is currently in a period of examinership with debts of €2.4m. Ray is a son of the former Rovers’ director Jack Wilson, hence his interest. Apparently, discussions with Rovers’ examiner Neil Hughes have intensified in recent days following the decision by a British based group, led by Brookes Mileson, to opt out of a deal to purchase the club. The 400 Club the group of supporters has played a pivotal role in keeping Rovers in business since it went into examinership in April and two of its members, Dave Carpenter and James Nolan, are currently serving on the steering committee charged with running the club. However, the club’s immediate future appears to be secure after the court appointed examiner, accountant Neil Hughes, appeased creditors and approved a joint takeover. |
