Oliver Luck, club president of MLS champions Houston Dynamo, said that Philip Anschutz, owner of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), is not considering selling the club.
"He called me and it is my understanding Mr. Anschutz no longer has plans to sell the team," said Luck.
On the day that Houston beat New England in a match for the MLS Cup at San Francisco, AEG president Tim Leiweke announced he would be meeting with interested buyers.
Calls to AEG in Los Angeles were not answered.
AEG currently runs four MLS franchises but is close to completion on the sale of D.C. United. That means the company achieved the goal of owning three clubs, Chicago Fire, Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo.
AEG set that goal after selling the New York Red Bulls this year.
Don Garber, MLS commissioner, said a local owner for the team has been a "long-term goal."
