The League One club is to be sold to the club’s Supporters Trust following three months of negotiations. Brian Kennedy of Cheshire Sport (club owners) will transfer his shareholding to the Trust as a gift with a rent-free 25 year lease to play at the ground. The Trust has also been offered the opportunity to acquire the freehold and has been given 10 years in order to raise funds to do so. Cheshire Sport has also agreed to allow the Trust to retain profits from the Edgeley Park Conference and Banqueting Facility. Supporters Trust Chairman Norman Beverley said: “This is a very important day in the history of Stockport County Football ClubIt marks the beginning of the process that will mean that from next season, the club will be run by the fans for the fans, and by the community for the people of Stockport. The Trust Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian Kennedy and his team at Cheshire Sport for enabling this deal to happen – it certainly wasn’t the easy option for him. Since he took over Stockport County two seasons ago we understand that he has personally put in nearly £4 Million pounds.
