English Ipswich Town will have a new owner, as the club has agreed to terms with Marcus Evans about a takeover in which more than 87 percent of the club would be his.
An EGM has been called for 17 Dec. to vote on Evans' takeover bid. Evans will clear the GBP 32 million in debt that is on the club's books, and provide a solid infusion of much-needed cash.
Current club chairman David Sheepshanks, who will stay in the role, believes the club will be in fine with Evans, and felt the deal would help Ipswich Town compete for a Premier League spot.
"This is an extremely good outcome," Sheepshanks wrote in an open letter to shareholders. "Marcus Evans has indicated a willingness to provide further investment were it to become necessary to achieve his and the club's aims.
"Marcus Evans has demonstrated his understanding of the club's heritage and the board believes the club's future will be safe in his hands."
